Shattered Core – The Character is in the Cracks

"Altered Alchemy" - abstract black and white art by Christina Rivera-Scott

Title:  Shattered Core
Dimensions:  9″x9″
Materials:  Pigma Micron Pens; Canson Cold Pressed Watercolor Paper

Shattered Core is the fourth in a series of abstract mandalas I created late this past summer.

Like its predecessors, the original 7″ circular design was drawn using black Pigma pens on a 9″x9″ piece of watercolor paper.

If the cracks that run through the mandala seem to strongly resemble a hand, that is because it is supposed to. While designing Shattered Core I initially had a hard time deciding how the cracks would run through the piece. I know I wanted it broken, but I didn’t know how.

Then I had placed my own hand over the image and I was inspired.
